  • The Washington Post reports: "China is a potential winner if Britain and the European Union rework trade deals and look for investors after a British exit. Beijing faces a blow from weaker European demand for its exports and pressure to hold its yuan steady in turbulent currency markets. But economists and political analysts say if Britain and the EU split, both sides will look to cash-rich Chinese companies that are expanding abroad — with the possible bonus for Beijing of closer political ties....On Monday, Premier Li Keqiang, the country's top economic official, said Beijing wants to see a 'united and stable' EU and a 'stable and prosperous' Britain — a possible reference to concern the vote might inspire separatist sentiment in other EU members or parts of the United Kingdom."
  • Reuters reports: "Britain's vote to leave the European Union has increased uncertainty in the global economy, and China hopes for a united and stable EU and a prosperous United Kingdom, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Monday....Britain's vote 'has showed its impact on the international market and further increased uncertainties in the global economy', Li told the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the northern city of Tianjin, in the first public comments on Brexit by a top Chinese leader....Li also called for global efforts to cope with challenges, the global economic recovery and boost investor confidence."
  • BBC News reports: "Chinese fans have reacted with outrage to Lady Gaga's meeting with the Dalai Lama over the weekend. Her social media posts about meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader on Sunday have led to online speculation over whether she will still be allowed to perform in the country....Many have been quick to condemn Lady Gaga, asking whether she is 'stupid' or 'ignorant' on the subject of Chinese political sensitivity. 'She has not considered Chinese fans,' says -GeorgeLee-, receiving over 1,000 likes....Yet lotusb defends her, saying 'she should not be ashamed' and adding that some of her fans had 'gone over the Chinese firewall' to find out why she met the Dalai Lama, and then tried to 'painstakingly explain her reasons to other Chinese fans'. 'We should respect all of her choices,' he added. His comment received over 400 likes."
