Ultimately, it’s imperative the two countries find ways to bolster trust, facilitate communication, and identify common ground moving forward.

Having endured an abundance of U.S.-led suppression, Russia will undoubtedly move to take advantage of its BRICS presidency to promote four key goals. It is determined to join hands with other BRICS nations to bring about a just, reasonable, multipolar world and break the dominance of the West.

As dissatisfaction with the Western-led financial system grows, BRICS is emerging as a collective voice for developing nations, challenging the dominance of the U.S.-led global order and advocating for alternatives to the dollar and euro.

The mechanism differs markedly from the Western alliance system, which is why many countries have sought to join. Countries in the group are playing an increasingly vital role in international affairs and have become an integral part of existing international multilateral mechanisms. Now the group is expanding to include even more.

Six new members joined the group in the first expansion since 2010. The new alignment shows the desire of intermediate countries to play a bigger role in international affairs in a great awakening of international political awareness.
