In this episode of The Pacific Dialogue, James Chau speaks with David Shambaugh, Director of the China Policy Program at George Washington University about his new book "Where Great Powers Meet: America and China in Southeast Asia.” Shambaugh discusses the main conclusions of his recent study on Southeast Asia where he finds soft rivalry playing out between the United States and China. The author says the United States and China are now locked into indefinite comprehensive competition across all functional domains, in every region of the world. He describes this new normal as the overriding, defining characteristic of international relations in the world today.
