Donald Trump said on Thursday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would have “very strong” protections if he agreed to US calls for denuclearisation in an effort to reassure a jittery Pyongyang.
“I’m willing to do a lot . . . He’ll have protections . . . The best thing he could do is make a deal,” said Mr Trump at the White House on Thursday.
Mr Trump’s statements came after North Korea appeared to throw the prospect of a historic meeting between the two leaders into doubt this week, railing against the “so-called Libya model of nuclear abandonment”.
